Smart Gadget provides technology sales, repairs, trade-ins, networking, CCTV, cybersecurity and IT support services in South Africa. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to Smart Gadget.

2. Information we collect

Depending on how you use our website and services, we may collect:

  • Your name, email address, mobile number and account details.
  • Delivery, collection and billing information.
  • Order, payment status, repair, support, warranty and trade-in information.
  • Device details such as brand, model, serial or IMEI number, condition and reported fault.
  • Messages, quote requests, reviews and other information you choose to send us.
  • Technical information such as IP address, browser, device type, cookies and website activity.

3. How and why we use information

We process personal information where it is necessary to provide a requested service, fulfil a contract, meet a legal obligation, protect legitimate business interests or where you have given consent. We use it to:

  • Create and manage customer accounts, quotes and orders.
  • Arrange payments, collections, courier delivery and tracking.
  • Diagnose, repair and return devices, and manage warranty claims.
  • Respond to enquiries, provide support and prevent fraud or abuse.

  • Send service messages and, only where permitted, relevant marketing that you can opt out of.

4. Payments, couriers and service providers

We may share only the information reasonably needed with trusted providers that help us operate, including payment processors such as Yoco, courier and logistics providers, website hosting, authentication, analytics, communications and technical-support providers.

Card payments are completed through the payment provider’s secure service. Smart Gadget does not intentionally store your complete card number or card security code.

We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect customers or our rights, or as part of a lawful business transfer. We do not sell personal information.

5. Cookies, analytics and advertising

Our website may use essential cookies to operate features such as accounts, carts and security. With appropriate consent where required, we may also use analytics and advertising services, including Google Analytics and Google AdSense, to measure visits, understand performance and show relevant advertising.

You can control non-essential cookies through the consent choices shown on the site and through your browser. Disabling certain cookies may affect some features.

6. Retention and security

We retain information only for as long as reasonably required for the purposes described above, our legal and accounting obligations, dispute resolution and fraud prevention. Retention periods differ by record type.

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect information. No internet or storage system is completely secure, so customers should also protect their passwords and avoid sending unnecessary passwords or sensitive content.

7. Your choices and rights

Subject to applicable law, including the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), you may ask to access, correct or delete personal information; object to or restrict certain processing; withdraw consent; or opt out of direct marketing.

We may need to verify your identity before completing a request and may retain information where the law requires it. You may also submit a complaint to South Africa’s Information Regulator.

8. Children, external links and changes

Our services are not intentionally directed to children who cannot lawfully enter into a transaction without a parent or guardian. Our website may link to external services; their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.
